Arden supports sustainable packaging solution for beverage industry

Posted on: Tuesday, July 11th, 2023

The Arden Group is helping to turn the tide on plastic pollution, creating the tooling for an innovative sustainable packaging solution.

We’ve supported our customer Graphic Packaging International to produce the tooling for UK-based production of their KeelClip™ product, which is a cartonboard fastener they have developed to replace the plastic rings on drinks cans.

The KeelClip™ was engineered with sustainability in mind and offers a minimal material solution made of recyclable paper and is now used by drinks manufacturers all over the world.

Sarah Poynter, Operations Manager at Arden Dies, said: “Plastic drinks rings have gained notoriety for littering our oceans and entangling and endangering turtles and other wildlife, so we’re pleased to have played our part in this project to bring to the market a more environmentally-friendly and sustainable alternative.

“Single-use plastic has led to a global crisis and organisations and manufacturers need to be part of the solution. We’re incredibly proud be part of the sustainable packaging supply chain and to work alongside customers who share our commitment to delivering paper and carton alternatives, helping to turn the tide on plastic pollution.”

This month is Plastic Free July – a global movement to raise awareness about plastic pollution and encourage people and organisations to reduce their plastic waste.

The Arden Group is committed to being an environmentally conscious organisation, and our other eco-friendly practices include:

  • Banning plastic packaging in all our external tooling shipments to customers
  • Removing all chemical processes from our production
  • The majority of products we produce across our die-making and engraving divisions are between 80-100% recyclable.
  • Increasing our recycling capacity
  • We’re an ISO 14001 certified company – an international standard which recognises organisations that have a successful environmental management system in place
